Well it’s summer and, I as well as the majority of us are excited about being outdoors. We have been cooped up all year and we can’t wait to get ourselves outdoors, to plant a vegetable garden, to take a walk at dusk or to entertain family and friends n the sun or to gather around a busy grill. Here are some tips for throwing an outdoor party that friends and family will talk about until the next party.
- Use the bounty of the season for decorative inspiration. Place your serving table next to a blooming flower bed or underneath a beautiful tree. Clip flowers and herbs from your garden and place them in small glass jars, like jelly jars, around your table. One blooming branch from a tree or bush makes an excellent centerpiece.
- Think light. When the sun goes down it’s going to be hard for you and your guests to find their way around. Place votive candles on the serving table in clear glasses, or jelly jars. You can also place votive candles in a paper bag filled about 1/4 of the way up with sand and light up a path way. Throw Christmas lights over bushes or string them in a tree, or hung paper lanterns.
- Make it easy on yourself. Grilling is all about relaxed fun and chatting it up with friends and family, so don’t kill yourself crafting course after course or decorating your backyard like a scene from some movie. After all, being outdoors, enjoying the warm weather, the sunshine on your face and the comfort of friends and family is why we get together
